When did we forget our dreams?
The infinite possibilities each day holds should stagger the mind. The sheer number of experiences I could have is uncountable, breathtaking, and I'm sitting here refreshing my inbox. We live trapped in loops, reliving a few days over and over, and we envision only a handful of paths laid out ahead of us. We see the same things each day, we respond the same way, we think the same thoughts, each day a slight variation on the last, every moment smoothly following the gentle curves of societal norms. We act like if we just get through today, tomorrow our dreams will come back to us.
And no, I don't have all the answers. I don't know how to jolt myself into seeing what each moment could become. But I do know one thing: the solution doesn't involve watering down my every little idea and creative impulse for the sake of some day easing my fit into a mold. It doesn't involve tempering my life to better fit someone's expectations. It doesn't involve constantly holding back for fear of shaking things up.

( just grow up, kid. )
I was told when I grew up I could be anything I wanted: a fireman, a policeman, a doctor — even president, it seemed. And for the first time in the history of mankind, something new, called an astronaut. But like so many kids brought up on a steady diet of westerns, I always wanted to be the avenging cowboy hero — that lone voice in the wilderness, fighting corruption and evil wherever I found it, and standing for freedom, truth, and justice. And in my heart of hearts I still track the remnants of that dream wherever I go, in my endless ride into the setting sun.

In all those things which deal with people, be liberal, be human. In all those things which deal with people's money, or their economy, or their form of government, be conservative.

Leaders of the world check in, freedom to protest checks out
Saturday was a less than shining moment for the country of Canada and, specifically, the city of Toronto. Toronto is the site of the current G20 meeting of nations, where leaders of the 20 largest economic engines around the world … Continue reading
Bad: Your PR efforts are more successful than your actual disaster response
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill continues to rage under the Gulf of Mexico’s waters, with every effort that BP has made to stem the flow of the leak seemingly either failing miserably or falling far short of self-set expectations. The … Continue reading
Your livingroom is a battlefield
It’s 8:30 on a winter’s evening. You’re relaxing with your wife and child in your bedroom, it’s a day just like any other. Then this happens…
A New Paul to Drag the Tea Party into the Light of Reality
You’ve got to hand it to the Tea Party people – they know how to get organized and get things done when it comes to trying to put their people in places for getting elected. It’s a smaller version of … Continue reading
At least we can all agree rape is bad?
Senator Al Franken (D-MN). The existence of that tagline still sends shivers down the spines of conservatives who still fume over a 302 vote loss in the 2008 election. The ranks of people wish those shivers, and that annoyance at … Continue reading
Denying what Americans want is considered a victory? (QH: 29 July 2009)
In today’s edition: health care passage, why you shouldn’t use the company e-mail for bad things, and a very brave woman. —– Conservative Democrats in the House, known as “Blue Dogs”, have graciously decided to stop holding up health care … Continue reading
Then they came for the activists and dissenters, and I said nothing as I was neither…
Between Hurricane Gustav’s slamming into Louisiana, John McCain’s rather inexplicable Vice President choice, and Obama’s thunderous speech last Thursday night, it’s understandable if other smaller stories fall through the cracks and don’t get the attention they deserve. I just always … Continue reading
To See Rights Fade For A Cause You Can’t Be On The Wrong Side Of…
TechDirt stole my thunder, but I shall opine nevertheless. It’s quite sad how little attention this is getting outside the corners of the internet where tech-savvy people gather, but perhaps the media thinks those are the only people who would … Continue reading
We torture our own citizens. We torture our own vets. We torture our own.
I try, lord do I ever try to keep optimistic on this country and its future. I keep telling myself we are living in a bad dream that makes up the first decade of the 21st century, a bad dream … Continue reading
You can take our freedom, just make sure I get my fucking vacation!
The Dog Days of Summer have come to the nation’s capital. The politicians have fled town – and who could blame them? I know of a dozen better places to spend my time than in the middle of a former … Continue reading
